FEI and LGCT Doha Stage Cancelled as Middle East Tensions Escalate

The opening leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour in Doha has been cancelled amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, with the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) issuing official notices and safety guidance for participants.

Originally scheduled to run from 4 to 7 March at Al Shaqab Equestrian Centre in Qatar, the CSI5* LGCT event will not take place on these dates due to the deteriorating regional security situation, disruptions to airspace, and associated travel constraints. Organisers from the LGCT and the host Doha Equestrian Tour say this difficult decision followed detailed assessment of these logistical and safety challenges. All horses, athletes, teams, staff and officials on site are reported to be safe.

In its security update, the FEI confirmed the cancellation of FEI-sanctioned CSI5*, CSI3* and CSI1* competitions in Doha and a CSI2* event in Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, citing the overriding need to protect participants and equine welfare. The FEI is in close contact with national federations and continues to monitor the evolving situation, advising competitors to follow guidance from their governments and embassies.

Organisers have indicated plans to resume the Doha Equestrian Tour programme from 11 March, with further details on the remainder of the LGCT season expected soon.
